E. Kork "She is a photographer"

I am the original, and you?

“The hat, a status symbol par excelence -and there is no uniform or livery that does not include one- is conveniently worn for like any other article of clothing and as such it may have many different shapes. Sometimes, then it has a practical and protective function like in sport and at work as well as in risky and dangerous activities but the greatest satisfaction comes from wearing it for pleasure.”

Anna Maria Nicolini, "L'Arte Di Fare i Cappelli"

The Sunflower Stayed in the Past

 "This story is written by Elif Kork in 2008 after her mum passed away because of Butterfly GBM."

dedicated to my flower;
my white mum...

-Let me cut it, I can do it!

After a short silence, I am one of the bodies on the floor while I am cutting the white pasteboard with a yellow knife, suddenly I stand on my feet.

-My finger, I cut my finger!

The Silence is Derived of Me -THE UNBALANCE

This symbol belongs to the first exhibition of Elif Kork that was realized in 2001; the photos were presented YIN-YANG, inspired by the symbol of all oppositions in life from far East, and CHESS, based on the game originated in Persian Ages, that symbolizes the struggle between man and woman, two sexualities in contrast.

She defended the blanks and inactivity in life. According to her, life is like a chessboard as it has black and white spaces. On the other hand, everything in the nature has something against to itself in itself. Life is a struggle and if you do nothing, you don’t get hurt and tired.

Life is like a chess game; when you begin to move, your life is shaped according to your previous steps. There are three characters in the play of life: “woman and man struggle to each others and a spectator doesn’t move”.

German philosopher M. Heidegger and his concept of Das Man is represented an important source of inspiration for her at first. Also inspiring were the Ferdydurke of W. Gombrowicz and the character of Prokrustes in Greek Mythology.

The human being is modelled by the other people that somehow contribute in giving a shape to him. Also the representation of the human is strongly dependant on the others. The result is that every human has everything and nothing in himself like in the symbol of YIN-YANG or like the opposite colours of the squares on a chessboard.
